This volume of Shared State Legislation (SSL) is designed to be a comprehensive resource for policymakers looking to bring innovative legislation to their states. Built to be easily viewed and shared, the SSL volume includes standout bills from the past three years on a variety of subjects. With the goal of sharing innovation in state policy and assisting state leaders in drafting bills that benefit their communities, CSG’s Shared State Legislation is curated and disseminated by a bipartisan committee of state lawmakers and legislative staff to identify topics of major interest to the states.
Launched in 1941, CSG’s Shared State Legislation is a member-driven process that produces a perennial resource for exploring new legislation. The CSG SSL Committee, comprising state lawmakers and legislative staffers, does not create legislation itself, but reviews recommended legislation adopted in the states. After its review, the committee selects the legislation included in the SSL volume, which is maintained for use by state leaders and staff.
CSG does not promote or advocate for the enactment of any of the state legislation listed in this volume. Rather, the program’s goal is to facilitate the sharing of legislative ideas among the states and CSG members. Legislation to be considered for the volume may be submitted by state officials or their staffers as well as by CSG members, associates and staff.
