Virginia House Bill 1726 amends laws regarding unmanned aircraft systems, introducing penalties for unauthorized use near dwellings, correctional facilities and defense facilities, with specific provisions for defense facility operators' immunity and fiscal impact considerations.

The bill relates to data requests received by public entities (school districts, counties, state agencies, etc.) and effectively adds a level of accountability to members of the public who request public data and have no intention of collecting said data.

This legislation directs the commissioner to develop and implement a public awareness campaign to educate the public on the safe storage of firearms and child access and prevention. Creates the State of Georgia as a Model Employer (GAME) Program. This program is intended to assist state agencies with the recruitment, hiring and retention of qualified individuals with disabilities. Elements of the GAME program shall include, but not be limited to, the following: (1) provision of training and technical assistance for state agency human resources personnel and hiring managers for the recruitment, hiring, advancement, and retention of qualified individuals with disabilities; (2) assistance with the implementation plans of reasonable accommodations by state agencies under the ADA; and (3) the development of evaluation forms and reports for the purpose of data collection and analysis relating to individuals with disabilities employed by state agencies.

This bill establishes the Governor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs to create a network of centers to provide assistance and services to immigrants and promote civic and economic integration.

This bill establishes the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Advancement within the Office of the Governor, for the purpose of operating a statewide immigrant and refugee integration strategy.

This bill establishes the Colorado Office of New Americans, intended to serve as a centralized location for state programs, initiatives and policies focused on facilitating economic stability and promoting successful integration of immigrants.

This bill amends the Governor’s Office of New Americans Act to support the social, cultural and economic inclusion of immigrants and refugees. Among other things, the Office of New Americans ensures immigrant and refugee access to quality English language learning programs and monitors the completion of New Americans Plans by each state agency.

The Uniform Public Expression Protection Act (UPEPA) is designed to combat the issue of strategic lawsuits against public participation, also called “SLAPPs.” These are lawsuits filed solely to entangle their targets in expensive litigation that chills the defendant from engaging in constitutionally protected activity, such as freely speaking and petitioning the government. The act creates a clear process by which such lawsuits can be challenged and their merits fairly assessed in an efficient manner.
